    Position Requirements:This position performs a variety of clinical and administrative duties as part of S.M.A.R.T., also commonly referred to as a co-responder model of crisis intervention. The S.M.A.R.T. response model consists of two-person teams comprised of a law enforcement officer and a mental/behavioral health counselor. The team is responsible for intervening on mental health-related law enforcement calls (and other crisis calls) to de-escalate situations which have historically resulted in arrest or hospitalization, and to assess whether the person in crisis should be referred to for a higher level of care. The S.M.A.R.T. Section provides a wide variety of specialized skills, services, and response capabilities reflecting the intersection of Summit County’s diverse community and its relationship with mental health.

    The Clinician must be able to effectively respond to, provide, manage, and coordinate professional mental health services and system support services. The role of the clinician will be to ensure continuity of care including: a high-level mental health assessment, using least restrictive means to produce a plan of action, collaboration with proper agencies, referral to appropriate type and level of service, and advocacy for treatment or services that are deemed necessary. Additionally, there are other duties as directed such as: public service events, public outreach, education, and response to other community events related to crisis, special projects, detailed interviewing, recording data and completing detailed notes, crisis negotiations and threat assessment. The Clinician serves as a mid-level staff member who reports to the S.M.A.R.T. Lieutenant. This Clinician ensures daily activities are provided at the highest level of public safety to all.

    Expectations of the Chosen Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented professional, skilled and competent in the application of the technical aspects of this role, problem solving, and providing superior customer support in response to internal and external requests and calls for service. The candidate will be highly detail-oriented and accurate in their work product. The selected candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to quickly absorb and understand unfamiliar subject matter.

    Required Qualifications: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or closely related degree from an accredited program. Licensed or license eligible in the State of Colorado (LPC, LCSW, PSY), candidates for licensure (LPCC, LCSWC) will also be considered given they meet the rest of the requirements. Experience on working with crisis response and intervention, suicide assessment and safety planning, hospitalization and community systems collaboration is a plus. Must be able to pass a background check, psychological examination, polygraph examination, physical examination and obtain a security clearance for work with Criminal Justice Records. You must have or obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within 60 days of appointment and maintain throughout employment and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. Experience working with co-response and law enforcement preferred. Must be 21 years of age. Off any probationary period and not currently involved in any disciplinary action.
